Todas las subastas / Arte Antiguo / Pot - Bronze - Lota water pot, limescale holder
Two beautiful tribal Indian objects, namely a Lota water pot and a Kalkhouder (Chuna-Dani or Chunadam). LINKS Authentic antique Indian Lota water pot, dating from the early twentieth century (circa 1920–1950) and manufactured on the Indian subcontinent. This iconic ritual utilitarian object, characterized by a broad globular body and a prominently flared rim, is cast from a very heavy quality bronze, locally referred to as Kansa or bell metal. That this is a solid, thick-walled specimen is underscored by the substantial weight of 760 grams with a modest height of 11.3 centimeters and a diameter of 12.5 centimeters. The object testifies to pure traditional craftsmanship. On the underside and interior the characteristic rough traces of the sand-casting process or the lost-wax method are clearly visible, which rules out modern machine mass production. After casting, the neck of the pot has been hand-finished on a lathe, leaving subtle horizontal turning lines. The metal has, over decades, developed a beautiful, deep dark brown to almost black patina that protects the bronze and gives the object a powerful, minimalist appearance. On the bottom there are authentic, historical lime and oxidation residues that attest to actual long-term use in ceremonies or for water storage. This Lota water pot is in excellent, unrestored condition and, with its timeless form, forms a high-quality collectible for enthusiasts of Asian art and historic metalwork. Dimensions: 11.3 x 12.5 x 12.5 cm Weight: 760 g RECHTS Authentic Indian Kalkhouder, locally known as a Chuna-Dani or Chunadam, dating from the nineteenth or early twentieth century (1850 to 1910) and forming a remarkable piece of Asian folk art. The object originates from India and was historically used for storing lime paste, an indispensable ingredient within the traditional betel nut culture. This particular specimen is hand-crafted from bronze using the artisanal Dhokra or lost-wax method. The exterior is decorated with a fine ribbed texture and bead patterns, while the interior shows clear early turning traces and casting structures that testify to the authentic casting process. The object is in a beautiful, untouched condition with a deep, dark patina and light signs of aging that enhance its historical character. Inside, the characteristic authentic lime residues from historical use are still visible. The tube closes with a three-part hinge, currently functionally secured with a wooden wedge. With a weight of 160 grams and compact dimensions of 10.8 cm in height, 5.1 cm in width, and a depth of 4.3 cm, this is a fascinating and tangible piece of cultural history for lovers of tribal art and Asian antiques. Dimensions: 10.8 x 5.1 x 4.3 cm Weight: 160 g
