"Ferita Aurea" – a meditation on red What strikes you immediately is the courage of subtraction. In an era of visual saturation, you choose the silence of two elements: a field and a totem. Red is not a flat color; it is a skin. You perceive a material handling, almost spatulate, with craquelé, glazes that shift from deep eggplant to oxidized blood, down to a burnt orange almost lava around the central incision. It is a red that has lived. It recalls the lesson of Italian Informal Art – I think of Burri and his Tar Papers, of Fontana for the sense of anticipation and fissure. But here the wound is not a cut, it is an unveiling. In the center, the vertical bar in metal leaf – weathered gold – is all rough, crumpled, light that does not reflect but traps. It seems a found ex-voto, a fragment of a meteorite, an undecipherable parchment. The irregularity of the edges makes it organic, almost anthropomorphic. The relationship is deliberately sacred. The golden rectangle is off-center slightly upward, like a Byzantine icon. The red surrounding it is not a backdrop, it is a temple, a mantle. It is the void of Rothko becoming an oppressive and protective embrace at the same time. There is a powerful duality: the immanence of red – flesh, earth, blood, passion, pain – and the transcendence of metal – spirit, time, eternity, preciousness that resists corrosion. It is a work deeply alchemical. Lead becoming gold at the center of the densest matter. It does not shout. It vibrates. It requires close distance. It changes with light: in the morning it will be cold, detached silver; in the evening, with oblique light, it will become molten gold, warm. It is a work that does not merely furnish a space; it consecrates it. It functions as a meditation point. Very few elements, but resolved with remarkable material maturity. If I had to place it in a genealogy, it is closer to painting as an object by Piero Manzoni than to painting as an image."
