The work configures itself as a three-dimensional code in which rare original paper fragments from the Regio Tribunale Civile e Penale di Venezia – dated November 11, 1902, exactly four months after the historic collapse of the Campanile of San Marco – open a close and visceral dialogue with the historical memory of the Serenissima. Anatomy of the work and the gesture of the Master: The plastic core of the installation consists of the inclusion of two authentic historic original bricks from the Campanile di San Marco, 1902. These century-old clay blocks have re-emerged following strong sea swells on the Lido di Venezia shore, exactly on the beach a few steps from Villa Jolanda, the historic Liberty-era home of 1931 where the artist spent his entire life with his parents Alessandro De Carli and Teresa Ida Molinari. The two historic bricks were entirely cut and sectioned by hand by the artist in the studio to reveal their deep structure and to highlight their unprecedented and spectacular inner chromatic veining (from burnt red to violet shades). After months of meticulous desalination, the artifacts were protected by a self-assigned varnish finish. They dialog with the abstract geometry of a cylindrical marble element, entirely painted and varnished by the Master in a deep and absolute blue, and with the mirroring rhythm of chrome spheres touching the surface. The project ideally follows the scientific program of Public Archaeology promoted by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice in 2021. PROVENANCE AND EXTRAORDINARY INSTITUTIONAL GUARDIANSHIP: The plastic core of this work includes authentic historic bricks originating from the collapse of the Campanile di San Marco in Venice (July 14, 1902), re-emerged from sea swells on the Lido shore a few steps from Villa Jolanda. The work is delivered with an exceptional archival dossier in 3 sheets signed and sealed by the artist (Certified with biologic biometric imprint + on-site expertise photo + author’s photograph with the work) + color technical illustration of the finished installation) Official Gigarte Archive Certification (National Archive Code). All historical and administrative documentation is provided in a certified copy in a sealed paper folder together with the work. The provenance and legitimacy of the materials are fully transparent, documented by the spontaneous declaration transmitted to the Mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro and certified in accordance with the LIST OF COUNCIL OF DEPARTMENT OF HUMANITIES STUDIES DELIBERATIONS OF MAY 12, 2021 of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Official Public History and Public Archaeology Project “El Paron de Casa”). Full compliance with lawful possession is further sanctioned by the ministerial-scientific and academic protocol, which formalized exemption from the ordinary reporting duties and legally authorized the conservation treatment of art and custody of the cataloged artifacts.
