Chinese bronze mirror from the Han Dynasty (206 B.C. – 220 A.D.) Circular bronze mirror, originally silvered on both faces, one face polished to a slightly concave surface. The other face features at its center a handle in the form of an openwork loop, surrounded by rich relief ornament. The motifs incorporate spiraled dragons and spirals arranged concentrically. These mirrors were signs of power and wealth in antiquity. Han dynasty bronze work was of great finesse, and casting techniques were highly advanced. This context makes them valuable objects; silvering on bronze was a technique reserved for the finest work for a power elite.
