"Monochrome und Feuer" was the only retrospective held for Klein during his lifetime, and the largest ever organized for the artist to date. It featured architecture drawings, an "immaterial" space, his "Mur de Feu", as well as examples of his iconic blue, pink and gold monochromes. Primarily working with the signature blue pigment throughout his career (known as International Klein Blue or IKB), Klein added these other two colors to his oeuvre, the pink and gold, around the time of the exhibition, held just a year prior to his death.
