Marine landscape painting "Petit port breton" - 2026 Description of the work This Yves Decaudan painting depicts a traditional seaport bordered by houses and small boats. You can see the harbor water reflecting vibrant colors, as well as two colored boats — a red boat on the left and a blue boat in the center. A quay, structured in ochre, yellow and black hues, runs through the scene forming a shelter for the basin. Behind this quay line up several houses nested within one another, with bright orange, red, white, gray, and green facades. The horizon line hints at the sea and a distant sailing boat. Above the roofs rise a few parasol pines under an sparkling blue sky. The palette is saturated and expressive. The painter does not apply color in a realistic way but seeks to convey the light and intensity of the place using bright primaries and secondaries blue, red, orange, yellow. The volumes of the houses, chimneys and the quay are simplified to the extreme into geometric blocks. Traditional rules of perspective are deliberately disrupted in favor of composition and the juxtaposition of colored masses. Overall, the piece gives off a dynamic, luminous and warm atmosphere typical of coastal landscapes reinterpreted by contemporary Fauvist-inspired painting. Painting by Breton artist Yves Decaudan - 1954 Canvases displayed at the Salon d’Automne in Paris in 2022 Yves Decaudan’s work is part of a colorful figurative current, heavily influenced by Fauvism and the Pont-Aven School, with a particular attachment to coastal Breton scenes. His works regularly feature moments of calm, reading or daydreaming outdoors, in a maritime or Mediterranean setting where time seems suspended. The artist’s work is characterized by expressive, poetic figuration, driven by a keen sense of color and the synthesis of forms. He favors blocks of pure, intense colors — such as deep blue contrasted with vivid red — creating an immediate, bright visual tension. The elements of the decor are defined and pared down, going to the essentials without dwelling on anatomical detail or strict realism, which brings his work closer to Fauvism or art posters. His subjects, often solitary and maritime, give off a sense of immobility, serenity, or daydreaming suspended in time. Through backgrounds worked in textural matter or studded with light brushstrokes, he establishes a poetic depth rather than a geometric one. Paintings exhibited in numerous private collections in Europe, North America, Africa and Oceania, ‘The situational visuals are AI Visualizations based on photographs of the real object.
