Yerva - Genève – Trench Watch – Manual Winding – Small Seconds – ca

Yerva Genève – Trench Watch – Manual Winding – Small Seconds – ca. 1915–1925 Description Antique Swiss wristwatch of the “Trench Watch” type, signed Yerva on the dial and datable approximately between 1915 and 1925, belonging to one of the most interesting periods in horology history. The so-called trench watches represent the transition between the traditional pocket watch and the modern men’s wristwatch. During the first decades of the 20th century, and especially around World War I, the wristwatch began to gain popularity for the convenience of being able to check the time quickly without having to take a pocket watch out. This specimen preserves many of the features typical of those early wristwatches: round case, strongly domed crystal, large Arabic numerals, antique-styled hands, and a small seconds hand at 6 o’clock. One of its most striking elements is its precious case, richly decorated, with ornamental motifs on the bezel and on the sides. A very characteristic work of early 20th-century watchmaking that gives the piece great personality. The dial retains a marked patina developed over roughly a century, with large applied Arabic numerals and a small seconds at 6 o’clock. Its aged appearance is part of the character and historical aesthetic of the watch. Inside we find a manually wound mechanical movement, visible in detail in the photographs, with traditional Swiss construction and jewels.
