Worldwide Stamp Album, Burundi to Far Eastern Republic

Worldwide, various issuing states. A cloth-bound album, blue over boards with a blind-ruled border, housing a worldwide postage stamp collection arranged alphabetically by issuing country from Burundi through the short-lived Far Eastern Republic. The stamps are mounted with paper hinges on printed album leaves, the great majority cancelled with a smaller number unused, and span issues of the 19th and 20th centuries. Colonial and post-colonial African administrations, Caribbean and Central American republics, European states and their overseas territories, and ephemeral early Soviet-era entities all appear across the run. Assembled in the manner of the classic general collection, the album records not only printing and engraving styles across a century of postal history but also the restless redrawing of national borders that philately quietly documents. The album's terminal heading is its most historically pointed: the Far Eastern Republic (Dalnevostochnaya Respublika) existed only from 1920 to 1922, a nominally independent buffer state centered on Chita and Vladivostok that served Soviet interests while Japanese forces remained in the Russian Far East. Its stamps, many of them overprinted Imperial Russian remainders, were issued in rapid and confusing succession before the republic was absorbed into the RSFSR in November 1922. Burundi at the other end of the run tells a parallel story of postal identity following political change, its earliest issues emerging from Ruanda-Urundi under Belgian administration before independence in 1962. General worldwide collections of this type were typically built from packets, exchange clubs, and dealer approvals over decades, which is why a single album can carry both common cancelled definitives and genuinely scarce items side by side. Page-by-page inspection is always warranted. Item # 199513
