Woolly Mammoth - Fossil molar - Mammuthus primigenius

Object Description: For sale is a fascinating and extraordinarily imposing testament to the last Ice Age: a genuine, fossilized molar of a woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius). With a stately length of 19 cm and a precise weight of 2.0 kg, this is a massive and heavy collectible piece, by no means a small fragment. The tooth captivates with its deep brown, ancient patina and the excellently visible anatomical structures. Particularly impressive are the densely packed, parallel enamel lamellae. These extremely hard enamel creases formed a shield-like chewing surface, enabling the mammoth to finely grind the sparse and tough vegetation of the Ice Age mammoth steppe — including silica-rich grasses, herbs, and twigs. This extraordinary piece offers a vivid account of the evolutionary adaptation of these Ice Age giants. Condition and preservation: The fossil is in an honest and authentic state and exudes a particularly beautiful, natural aura. It shows the typical drying cracks of woolly mammoth molars that formed over millennia in sediment. The substance is stable and firm. The piece is excellent as an exclusive decorative object for living or working spaces, as a focal piece of a natural history collection, or as a biological demonstration and study specimen.
