Wonderful Vintage Stud Earrings with Emeralds & Diamonds in Gold, c. 1985

The name of the emerald probably comes from the Latin "Smaragdus", which in turn is taken from the Greek "Smaragdos". The green variety of beryl was already in demand in ancient Egypt and Egypt dominated the emerald trade in the Mediterranean region until the fall of the pharaonic empire. It was not until the conquest of South America by the Spanish in the 16th century that rich emerald deposits were discovered, which from then on became the most sought-after gemstones. This pair of round stud earrings each feature one of these bright green gemstones, set in a ring of eight sparkling white diamonds. The gemstones are held in place by fine, airy bars of high-carat yellow gold, which lends them a special lightness and allows the light to fall in perfectly. The pair from the 1980s is in very good condition. An independent appraisal confirms the quality of the materials used. The ear studs combine fine craftsmanship with timeless elegance and set off the gemstones in an understated and effective way.
