A great traveler, he traversed Europe, visited the USSR and accompanied Frida Kahlo to Mexico. In the United States, he exhibited in New York and frequented Alfred Stieglitz as well as Georgia O'Keeffe. During World War II, he actively served in the American army. Discharged in France in 1945, there he met his future wife and decided to settle there. His pictorial research then focused intensely on light, color and movement.
