La Rochelle (Charente Maritime - France) 3 large old colorized panoramic views Old Port, seafaring & city Early 20th century Beautiful and rare decorative set of three large old colorized panoramic views of La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime), dedicated to the famous Old Port, its maritime activity and the historic city. These three views form a particularly coherent and evocative set of the French Atlantic coast maritime heritage. They reproduce old photographic views hand-colored, in the spirit of the great postcards and polychrome prints of the early 20th century. The first two compositions offer superb panoramas of the port of La Rochelle, then bustling with a multitude of sailing ships, working boats and steamships. Here you can see the quays, the historical entrance to the port and the famous towers of La Rochelle, emblems of the maritime city. One of the views notably preserves the old caption “LA ROCHELLE – SORTIE DU PORT”, while another bears the mention “LA ROCHELLE – Vue générale…”. The third work remarkably completes the ensemble with a panoramic view of the old city, with its tangle of roofs, its streets, its towers and its historic architecture. The prints display a very beautiful palette characteristic of old colorized photographic views: turquoise blue of the basin, ochre and sepia tones of the quays and buildings, multicolored sails and pastel shades. This colorization gives the whole an aesthetic immediately recognizable as the tourist and maritime representations of the first half of the 20th century. Technique: old photomechanical color prints after photographs, under glass. The two port views are presented in fine old frames with floral relief decoration, completed by an inner striated/marquetry molding. The third view has an elegant older wooden frame, more understated. The backs, mounts and closing systems also have an old antique appearance. Dimensions: large panoramic view of the Old Port: 60 × 26.5 cm “Sortie du Port”: 55 × 25 cm panorama of the city: 45 × 24 cm The set is sold in its original aged condition.
