Todas las subastas / Varios / Wall decoration (2) - Italy - Bronze miniature on silk
Pair of vintage bronze cast medallions with miniature scenes on silk – Sir Thomas Lawrence ("The Red Boy", 1825) & Gallant Pastoral Scene Rococo (Watteau/Boucher style) Refined pair of oval decorative wall medallions dating from the second half of the 20th century (Neo-Rococo / Mid-Century style). The plaques feature an elaborate and solid external pierced bronze frame (weight a substantial 464 g), richly decorated with volutes, foliage motifs and shells. Inside the main frame there is a velvet background original to the piece (one in emerald green and the other in crimson red), which frames a central oval bronze medallion finely granulated. The subjects of the central medallions are high-quality reproductions stamped on fine silk, whose fiber gives a particular luster, tonal softness and a shimmering effect to the painted details: Detail of the Artistic Subjects: Medallion on Green Velvet: Title of the Work: The Red Boy (Master Charles William Lambton) Original Work Author: Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769–1830), celebrated British painter and President of the Royal Academy. Historical-Artistic Details: The original work was created in 1825 on commission from John George Lambton (1st Earl of Durham) to portray his six-year-old son. The child is depicted absorbed in contemplation in a natural landscape, dressed in an iconic opulent red velvet outfit with a lace-collared, ornate shirt. The work is among the most famous childhood portraits of British Romantic art. Medallion on Red Velvet: Title of the Work: Scène Galante Pastorale (Fête Galante) Author/School of Inspiration: French 18th-century Rococo school (inspired by the models of Jean-Antoine Watteau and François Boucher). Historical-Artistical Details: The subject belongs to the fête galante genre, codified in 18th-century France to celebrate the aristocratic ideal of leisure, flirtation, and carefree enjoyment in the open air. The scene depicts ladies and gentlemen in wide, refined period garments set in an idyllic natural park. Era: Second half of the 20th century (circa 1960–1980) External Frame Material: Cast bronze and worked with gilded/burnished patina Manufacturing: Italian art foundry Marks / Stamps: The raised inscription ITALY is present along with the foundry’s mark/emblem cast on the back of the top crest. Notes for the buyer: The presence of the foundry stamp on the back attests to the quality of workmanship and the artisanal origin of the bronze piece. Background Passe-Partout: Velvet (Emerald Green and Crimson Red) Central Print Support: Fine silk Dimensions (each): 20 cm x 15 cm Weight: 464 g (fully bronze cast) Suspension: Equipped with a ready-to-hang original rear hook Excellent vintage condition.
