VOLTAIRE. La Pucelle d'Orléans, poem divided into twenty-one songs, with notes by Mr. de Morza. Nouvelle édition, corrigée, augmentée d'un chant entier & de plusieurs morceaux répandus dans le corps de l'ouvrage. London, 1774. In-8, red morocco, wide gilt lace with stylized foliage and small irons, richly decorated smooth spine, olive title-piece, green morocco lining, inner lace and triple fillet with fleuron at corners, pink silk endpapers, gilt edges (Period binding). A precious copy on Hollande paper, including the complete suite of 20 original drawings by Gravelot (19 in pen and sepia wash and one in graphite) and an original pencil drawing by Marillier, for the 1762 edition, the first admitted by the author. These drawings are mounted on laid paper sheets inserted at the time of binding and placed at the beginning of each song. Marillier's drawing illustrates the additional song included in this edition. From the libraries of Paignon-Dijonval, Morel-Vindé (not listed in his sale catalog), Comte de Mosbourg (1893, no. 134), Lord Carnarvon (1897, no. 101), Édouard Rahir (I, 1930, no. 245, in Carteret), Laurent Meeûs (1982, no. 168) and vicomte Couppel du Lude (2009, no. 143). Very fresh contemporary binding in lace morocco, lined in the same style. Quoted by Cohen (col. 1029). Preserved in a black morocco box by Ateliers Laurenchet.
