VOLTAIRE. — Candide, or Optimism. Paris, Rombaldi, 1939. - Lot 270

VOLTAIRE. — Candide, or Optimism. Paris, Rombaldi, 1939. In-8, 181 pp., paperback, printed cover with embossing, title in red and black on the front cover and spine. An illustrated edition featuring 5 original color plates by Louis-André Berthommé Saint-André, including the frontispiece. Here, the artist offers a free and decidedly sensual interpretation of Voltaire’s famous philosophical tale. The bibliographic references consulted confirm the collation of 181 pages and five color plates. One of the numbered copies printed on Voiron laid paper. A fine copy preserved in paperback with its original bound cover; in particularly good condition for this edition. A few very slight marks and stains on the cover, slight wear on the head and foot caps; interior fresh overall.
