Falcon's Eye is a microcrystalline and opaque variety of quartz. It occurs in shades ranging from dark blue to blue-gray and blue-green. Its unique, fine-grained internal structure produces a characteristic silky sheen. This phenomenon, known as chatoyance—or the cat’s-eye effect—has given the stone its evocative name. Major deposits of falcon’s eye, which is prized as a gemstone, are found primarily in South Africa and Western Australia. A particularly beautiful specimen adorns this vintage ring dating from around 1975. The falcon’s eye, weighing more than ten carats, displays a mysterious, deep blue over which a slightly greenish sheen is cast when light hits it. The stone is cut into an oval cabochon, which beautifully highlights the mineral’s vibrant play of colour and light. The falcon’s eye is set in high-karat white gold and surrounded by an entourage of 18 diamonds with a total weight of c. 1.20 ct. Their bright sparkle creates a charming contrast to the deep blue and silky sheen of the center stone. The design is both expressive and timelessly classic. The ring is in excellent condition and found its way to us here in Berlin.
