Small 12mo, marbled calfskin, decorated spine, marbled edges (contemporary binding). A sentimental tale recounting the adventures of Monsieur de La Verdure, a young and extravagant marquis who flees his father’s home, taking care to pick the lock of his father’s safe before leaving... (Gay-Lemonnyer, vol. III, col. 724.) The work, originally published in 1734, was written by Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve (1695–1755), the famous author of *Beauty and the Beast* (1740). From the library of Count François Potocki, with his engraved ex-libris bearing his coat of arms. Minimal scuffing on the binding.
