VILLEMER - Lot 299

VILLEMER Prussian Swine!!! A Patriotic Tale. A Tribute to His Majesty Wilhelm, Emperor of Germany. Paris, Bassereau, publisher, 240 rue Saint-Martin, [1890s]. A rare, 6-page illustrated patriotic tale dedicated to Bismarck and French revenge following the War of 1870. Color lithographed cover depicting a French soldier standing before Bismarck’s funeral monument, bearing the inscription: “Bismarck, the Iron Chancellor, who died in 1890.” Villemer’s narrative imagines, in a fiercely satirical vein, a French revenge extending all the way to Berlin. The final page concludes with a particularly scathing rebuke directed at Bismarck. The Bibliothèque nationale de France holds this publication and describes it as a 6-page volume, illustrated in color, lithographed, 27 cm, published by Bassereau in the 1890s. It is cataloged in the Vinck Collection under numbers 20511–20512. BnF Catalog A few creases and slight foxing; overall in fine condition.
