VIKING AGE SILVER RING WITH A BIRD

Ca. AD 700 - 1100. A silver ring with a broad D-section hoop supporting a rectangular bezel with rounded corners. Engraved on the face is a bird standing to the right, with its wing and tail feathers rendered by parallel incisions. Punched dots fill the surrounding field and continue around the perimeter of the bezel. Size: D:18.75mm / US: 8 3/4 / UK: R; Weight: 7.9g Provenance: Private London collection; previously acquired from a Belgian collection (1980s-1990s).
