The glass factory Daum Frères in Nancy, founded in 1878 by Jean Daum and later made famous by his sons Auguste and Antonin, was one of the key figures of the Art Nouveau movement. Together with their neighbor and rival Émile Gallé, the Daum brothers put the French city of Nancy on the world map as the absolute center of glass art. Around the turn of the century (1900) they broke through internationally with their innovative techniques, such as acid etching, the application of enamel, and the rediscovery of the pâte de verre (glass paste) technique. Their vases, lamps and bowls stand out for the flowing, organic forms and motifs directly inspired by nature, such as flowers, insects and mysterious landscapes.
