Vase - Rosaline glass • twelve-sided • satin floral roll-work band • ca

Rosaline color • twelve-sided • satinized floral millefiori/rolwerk band • ca. 1920–1940 A heavy vase in rosaline glass, pressed into a twelve-sided form, presumably from the first half of the twentieth century. The wavy rim ends in curling lobes. Around the body runs a satinized band in which the millefiori/rolledwork stands out clearly from the matte background. In the thick foot the pink shades become warmer and deeper. In one glance: Material: rosaline (pink) calcined glass, pressed, with satinized band Dimensions: h 16.5 x diameter 14.5 cm Weight: 952 grams Brand: no factory mark, press mark, punch mark, signature or label Dating: presumably ca. 1920–1940 Provenance: from the collection of Decaders Gallery Description and context: Twelve-sided body with vertical hollow ribs, on a widening twelve-sided foot with an inset pressed twelve-point star. Along the wavy rim runs a narrow row of fine millefiori/rolled work. In the satinized central band the millefiori/ROLlwork with crescent moons and leaf shapes is carved out in the clear glass. The outer ring of the foot is plane-ground, a finish fitting carefully crafted pressed glass. Computationally, the wall is about five millimeters thick. Rosaline was a common trade name for this pink glass, among others in Bohemian export catalogs from the 1930s. A maker is not claimed. Condition: Good. Rim, body and foot: no cracks, broken pieces or restorations observed. Foot ring and underside: fine scratches from use. Glass mass: a few small air bubbles and a black dot in the wall, production-specific and no damage. Satinized band: uniform, without worn spots. See the images. Offered as a decorative object, not intended for use with food. In the interior: Fits in a classic, eclectic or vintage interior, on a mantelpiece, sideboard or windowsill. In daylight the bright millefiori lines stand out against the soft, matte band. Shipping: Professionally packed in a sturdy box with cushioning material, for fragile objects a double box. Always insured, sent with Track and Trace. See the feedback from previous buyers. Attribution and sources: A maker or factory has not been established and is not claimed. I compared 211 vases from German, Czech, Belgian, French, British and Dutch factories. I also consulted 190 vase sheets from pattern books of Brockwitz, Walther, Markhbeinn and Libochovice and trade images from Scandinavia, Poland and Southern Europe. No pattern carries this decoration. The provenance is European, presumably Central or Western Europe.
