Vase - Large cachepot with motif "Pavoncella/Gallo" Sardinian sgraffito

Splendid and imposing vase (cachepot) in Sardinian artistic ceramic, entirely handmade and hand-decorated. The animal depicted is a Sardinian pavoncella (or gallinella), reinterpreted in a modernist style. In the island’s craft tradition, the pavoncella is a very strong agro-pastoral symbol representing fertility, abundance, and good fortune. The technique used is graffito on engobe (the clay is coated with a layer of white earth and then incised raw to bring out the dark color of the underlying clay), typical of the great ceramic centers of Sardinia such as Assemini, Dorgali, or Oristano. The body of the vase is enriched with deep vertical flutes and completed by two characteristic raw-applied ring handles. On the base is present the artist’s monogram hand-signed in black. A display piece with strong visual impact, perfect for collectors of regional art ceramics and XXth-century design. Material: Ceramic / Engobed terracotta and incised glaze Origin: Italy, Sardinia (Artistic Manufacture of Assemini / Dorgali) Period: Second half of the 20th century (circa 1970) Decoration: Manual sgraffito incising Signature/Mark: Artist’s initials on the bottom Good vintage condition. Dimensions: Height: 25 cm x Diameter: 25 cm
