A refined Japanese cloisonné enamel vase of slender form, with rounded shoulders and a flared neck, richly decorated in polychrome enamels against a reddish-brown ground. The surface is articulated by large shaped reserves: one depicting a bird among vegetal motifs, while another features a stylized dragon amid scrolling forms and flames against a green ground. The upper band is decorated with butterflies within reserves, small flowers, and scrolling motifs, while the shoulder is embellished with an elaborate floral and geometric design in vibrant shades of blue, red, green, white, and pink. Marked beneath the base. Japanese cloisonné is one of the most refined forms of decorative art. Originally adopted from China, the technique was perfected by Japanese artisans during the Meiji period. The technique involves the use of vibrant polychrome enamels that create a metallic, glossy effect. The vase is in very good condition.
