Vase (2) - Ceramic - Ancient limmi

Pair of ancient "Limmi" (or Lemmi) in glazed terracotta – popular Puglian ceramic from Grottaglie/Laterza, late 19th / early 20th century The interior and the rim edge are coated with a glossy lead-glazed cream-colored finish, hand-decorated with the historical technique called "a schizzi" or "smambriato". The exterior shows the typical rustic, raw terracotta left natural. In the past, these vessels were indispensable in southern kitchens and were used for preserving homemade products (in particular to contain and dry tomato passata) or as basins for washing vegetables and foods Large size: diameter 44 cm / height 23 cm Small size: diameter 35 cm / height 20 cm
