The Artwork This delightful composition, entitled Chinese Zodiac, features a whimsical vertical tower of animals inspired by the Chinese zodiac. The animals are stacked one above another in a playful and precarious arrangement, creating a charming visual narrative. At the top, a green dragon leisurely enjoys a drink while resting above a tiger. Below them, a lively collection of animals, including a horse, monkey, rooster, goat and snake, forms an amusing and imaginative composition. Executed in delicate black ink lines and transparent watercolour washes, the illustration perfectly demonstrates Vanistendael's spontaneous, expressive and humorous drawing style.
