Vanessa Fodera (1981) - THE HERMÈS COACHMAN – The Birkin...

THE HERMÈS COACHMAN – The Birkin Paradox Vanessa Foderà | ARTOYS DESIGNER | France | 2026 XXL contemporary sculpture – Hermès Inspired – Pop Art / Street Art / Luxury Art – Original unique work 1/1 THE HERMÈS COACHMAN – When the Hermès coachman meets Pop Art The French artist Vanessa Foderà, founder of ARTOYS DESIGNER, presents THE HERMÈS COACHMAN, an XXL contemporary sculpture inspired by the emblematic universe of the Hermès house. Through this original creation, the artist revisits the historical and aesthetic codes of Parisian luxury, in particular its equestrian heritage, its iconic colors and its leather goods universe. The character freely draws from the famous groom accompanying the carriage associated with Hermès’ historic identity, reinterpreted here in the features of an extravagant, elegant, and decidedly contemporary coachman. Crowned with a spectacular black top hat, wearing a blood-orange tailored jacket and fitted with gold accessories, THE HERMÈS COACHMAN embodies the meeting of elegance, popular culture and artistic expression. But behind this refined appearance lies an ironic message about luxury and money, revealed on the reverse: "MONEY CAN’T BUY HAPPINESS… BUT IT CAN BUY A BIRKIN!" A creation where the elegance of the Hermès coachman meets the provocative spirit of Street Art. A reimagined Hermès coachman in contemporary sculpture THE HERMÈS COACHMAN stands out for a significant sculptural transformation of its original support. Created from a commercial XXL Playmobil base, the sculpture was customized in Vanessa Foderà’s French workshop. The jacket, waistcoat and top hat underwent a specific design and 3D resin printing fabrication process. These elements provide new volumes and profoundly alter the character’s appearance. The blood-orange jacket, with structured lapels and personalized reliefs, reproduces the colors associated with the Hermès universe. Matching orange sleeves extend the silhouette’s harmony. The sculptural black waistcoat adds contrast and depth, while the cream trousers and dark brown‑trimmed boots complete the outfit inspired by equestrian elegance. The whole transforms a popular character into an original artistic figure, halfway between a luxury coachman, an extravagant gentleman, and a Pop Art icon. Details inspired by the Hermès universe The sculpture features numerous individually crafted or customized details and accessories: * Black sculptural top hat adorned with a geometric rhinestone diamond, a visual signature of ARTOYS DESIGNER. * Decorative orange headband, punctuated with black details and a buckle bearing the letter H. * Blood-orange jacket printed in 3D resin, with structured lapels, reliefs and artistic inscriptions. * Black sculptural waistcoat designed to measure. * Matching blood-orange arms. * Gold chain and decorative pendant evoking money and wealth. * Graphic details and visual references to Hermès Paris. * Decorative yellow accessory recalling luxury world codes. * Cream trousers and contrasting graphic elements. * Custom boots with glossy finishes. * Professional painting, rhinestones, decorative accessories and glossy 2K varnish. Each element contributes to the character’s visual identity, whose original silhouette has been completely reimagined. THE BIRKIN PARADOX – A second work on the back The sculpture’s rear reveals a highly expressive graphic composition entitled THE BIRKIN PARADOX. On a blood-orange background, a Pop Art scene inspired by the Hermès leather goods universe appears. A stylized Birkin bag occupies the center of the composition, surrounded by banknotes, coins and symbols of wealth. The vivid colors, graphic overlays and contrasts recall the energy of contemporary Street Art. At the heart of the piece stands the phrase: "MONEY CAN’T BUY HAPPINESS… BUT IT CAN BUY A BIRKIN!" This knowingly ironic formula explores our relationship with money, consumption, objects of desire and symbols of social success. The contrast between the two faces is a key element of the work. On the front: the elegance of the Hermès coachman, his sculptural suit and the codes of Parisian luxury. On the back: a graphic explosion around the Birkin bag and a provocative message on the symbolic power of money. THE HERMÈS COACHMAN thus offers two complementary artistic readings, designed to be discovered from different angles. A work of art and craftsmanship made in France The creation combines several contemporary and artisanal techniques: * Transformation of a commercial XXL Playmobil base. * Design of new sculptural elements. * 3D resin printing of customized pieces. * Professional painting in blood-orange, black, cream and brown. * Creation and application of UV DTF graphic compositions. * Placement of accessories, rhinestones and decorative elements. * Work on reliefs, contrasts and details. * Application of a glossy 2K varnish. * Assembly and finishing done individually. This customization work turns the initial industrial support into a contemporary work with its own artistic identity. An original unique work – 1/1 THE HERMÈS COACHMAN – The Birkin Paradox is an original work created in a single example. It is not a mass-produced sculpture, but a unique piece emerging from Vanessa Foderà’s universe. Its combination of tailor-made sculptural pieces, graphic décors and customized accessories gives it a distinctive visual identity within the ARTOYS DESIGNER collection.
