First edition of Leopoldo Vaccà Berlinghieri's treatise dedicated to the examination of the theories on heat formulated by the English scientist Adair Crawford. A work of interest for the history of physics and chemistry of the eighteenth century, in which topics such as the nature and transmission of heat, combustion, respiration and animal heat are addressed, with reference to the experiments and scientific theories of the time. Pagination: XI, 85, [1] pp. Total: 97 pages according to bibliographic pagination, including the final unnumbered sheet with the Errata / Corrections. Collation - Copy checked directly fascicle by fascicle. Signature evidence: A2; +2, +3; A, A2; B, B2; C, C2; D, D2; E, E2; F, F2; G, G2; H, H2; I, I2; K, K2; L, L2. Fascicles I, K and L are present and complete. Present: - title page; - preliminaries up to p. XI; - complete text from p. 1 to p. 85, which ends with “FINISH” (FINE); - the final unnumbered sheet of Errata / Corrections. The order of the text and pagination appears complete based on the collated check. Binding Beautiful full red morocco binding, presumably contemporary, with an elegant gold-printed ornamental frame on the boards and a richly gilt back. Gilt top edges. Marbled endpapers. The quality of the binding, the gilding and the gilded edges give the copy a particularly elegant appearance. State of preservation - Interior overall very well preserved, on strong paper with good margins. - Normal and sporadic signs of age, light stains or foxing and small signs of use, as visible in the photographs. - At least one ancient marginal hand note, with the word “formation,” corresponding to a correction also indicated in the final errata. The note is not attributed to any specific person. - The binding shows wear, abrasions, small defects and superficial losses, especially along edges, joints and more exposed parts, as documented photographically. - The first blank front endpaper is missing. - At the end of the volume there is a guard sheet; the rear marbled flyleaf preserves the portion attached to the paste-down, while the corresponding free marbled paper is missing. These omissions concern exclusively the guard/flyleaf papers of the binding and not the printed text, which is complete according to the collocation described above. The photographs are an integral part of the description and show in detail the state of the copy.
