Two dolls in Hopi kachina style - Wood - U.S. - Achyuta Deva Raya (1529–1542)

The Hopi Indigenous People of America, living on the lands of North America long before the first European set foot there, continue to perpetuate their millennial traditions, hoods and other ceremonial accessories. In the vast desert expanses of the state of Arizona bordered by high plateaus, called Mesas, the Hopi Indians carry on their ritual ceremonies to the rhythm of the seasons. Adorned with masks and ceremonial robes, the dancers embody the spirits whose help is needed to regulate rains and ensure a good harvest of beans and corn. Spirits of minerals, of game, of domestic animals, of plants, of trees, of the wind, of the dead… the spirituality of all materiality, called Katsina (or Kachina), is then invoked. The Hopis ask these messengers to use their benevolent power to help people live in harmony. #ttapr
