Hergé / Maricq – The Treasures of Tintin + 22 facsimiles (2014) The book The Treasures of Tintin, written by Dominique Maricq and published by Casterman / Moulinsart, is a beautiful 96-page rigid boxset published in November 2014. It offers 22 facsimiles of rare documents from Hergé's archives (letters, sketches, unpublished plates, and advertising objects). Contents of the boxset * A richly illustrated book tracing the genesis of Hergé's work and the history of his albums * 22 facsimiled documents slipped into pockets or loose, including: * The first appearance of Tintin in Le Petit Vingtième (1929) * Sketches and pencil drafts from personal notebooks (1937) * Unpublished plates or panels in album form (Tintin and Alph-Art, Tintin and the Picaros) * Coloring blueprints and period advertising posters. A collection of facsimiled albums * There is also a separate collection of facsimiled albums in colour (like The Treasure of Red Rackham). These are identical reissues of the colourized versions published between the 1940s and 1970s, before later layout or drawing changes made by Hergé Description Tintin's courage, the Captain Haddock's florid language, the jewelry (and cries of horror) of the Castafiore, Milou's curiosity, the natural elegance of the Dupond and Dupont detectives, or Tournesol's quick wit… an universe that delights us, resonates deep in our childhood, and which we eagerly pass on to our children as a heritage when we are adults. This very beautiful work traces the genesis of Tintin’s adventures in Le Petit Vingtième and, subtly, paints the portrait of his brilliant and talented creator, Hergé, aka R.G., aka Georges Remi. As the chapters unfold, album after album, year after year, anecdotes about the making of the twenty-four Tintin albums and major episodes in the life of their author are recounted. Richly illustrated, it contains twenty-two treasures, rare and unpublished documents reproduced with care as facsimiles, including a replica of the first issue of Le Petit Vingtième, dating from 1929. It will delight all seasoned Tintin fans, but it is also aimed at a curious and passionate family audience of comic books and beautiful books.
