Cool elegance - this seems to have been the buzzword of Art Deco jewelry designers if you take a look at the catalogs and fashion magazines of the time. Cool and crystalline, gleaming in the white light of platinum and diamonds, often in geometrically elongated shapes reminiscent of icicles: this is how we know the pendants, rings and earrings of the era. Earrings in this elongated drop shape are particularly characteristic of the time, as they accentuated the rebelliously short hair of the modern woman, the bob. In 1926, the fashion magazine "Die Dame" reported that there were two types of bob, one very angular and one softer, more undulating: "The new jewellery effectively supports both aspirations. Elegant women currently love to wear long earrings, but only for the evening, as they are impractical during the day." (Die Dame - Ein deutsches Journal für den verwöhnten Geschmack, September 1926.) Made from platinum, white and yellow gold and set with a total of 1.88 carats of diamonds, these earrings are a luxurious example of this fashion. Each element of the three-piece earrings is movably mounted, allowing them to swing with movement and the facets of the diamonds to catch the light effectively. Subtle graphic shadow gaps and the symmetrical conception of the shape allow the pair to breathe the spirit of Art Deco. The highlight of the composition is formed by two wonderful old-cut diamonds, each weighing three quarters of a carat. The earrings are in very good condition and are extremely wearable. We were able to discover them here in Berlin. An independent appraisal is included with the luxurious pair.
