Tile (2) - Dutch East Indies - Sphinx Maastricht - 1940-1950 - KPM M.S

A special set of two vintage Dutch ship tiles depicting the M.S. Baud and M.S. Camphuys, both sailing for the Koninklijke Paketvaart-Maatschappij (KPM). The tiles are executed in brown, black and cream tones and show the ships with the characteristic KPM line flag with crown in the upper right. In the lower left corner of each tile is the name of the depicted ship. Both pieces were manufactured by De Sphinx in Maastricht and on the back bear an impressed Sphinx factory mark. The Baud and Camphuys were sister ships, both entering service for the KPM in 1949. The tiles probably date from 1949/1950. Interesting maritime collectible items, especially for collectors of KPM, Dutch shipping, former Dutch East Indies and Maastricht ceramics. Dimensions: approx. 15 × 15 cm per tile. Condition: good vintage condition with normal signs of aging and use. Along the edges there are a few small chips and spots with glaze loss. On the back there are remnants of old mounting glue.
