Tiki Māori en bois Rotorua - Sculpture - Tiki - Maori...

I am offering for sale this pretty Māori-style Tiki sculpture, carved in wood and originating from Rotorua, New Zealand. The sculpture represents a stylized human figure with many carved details and eyes inlaid with paua shell, typical of New Zealand craftsmanship. On the back it bears the mark: « CARVED IN ROTORUA – NEW ZEALAND » The sculpture features a beautiful natural dark brown/reddish patina and is very decorative. From the style, materials and comparable pieces bearing the same type of mark, it could date from the second half of the 20th century, probably around the 1980s–2000s. The dating remains indicative, however. Dimensions: Height: 37 cm Width: 14 cm Thickness: 3 cm Materials: carved wood, probably mātaī, with paua shell inlays. A beautiful piece for enthusiasts of Māori sculpture, Oceanic art, vintage pieces or original decorative items.
