Back label with a title handwritten in an ancient hand. 1 white sheet, [8], 536, 75, 1 white sheet Thomas Sydenham (Windford-Eagle 1624 - London 1689) illustrious English physician is known as the creator of a new clinical school founded on the scrupulous and objective study of pathological symptoms. He is considered the father of epidemiology: studies on the London epidemics are of great significance. In contrast to iatrophysicians and iatrochemists, who interpreted pathological and biological phenomena exclusively in mechanical and chemical terms, Sydenham redirected medicine onto the path of clinical observation and personal experience, reiterating Hippocratic concepts to the point of being called the “English Hippocrates” in the 19th century. Frontispiece in two colors with a fine design engraved at the center. Numerous decorated initials and inhabited, large headings finely engraved and tailpieces. Plate at full size folded at p.519. Ex libris applied to the flyleaf. At the end the Supplementum operum medicorum Thomae Sydenham. Some sporadic stains but overall exemplary in excellent condition, clean, usable and complete.
