Chevalier Paris – Antique theatre binoculars with a raised decorative motif of birds and cherry branches – France, early 20th century Description Splendid and refined theatre binoculars / opera glasses by Chevalier Paris, characterized by a distinctive raised decoration depicting birds perched on branches with fruit, in an Art Nouveau style. The piece features a brass gilt and silvered metal body, with rich ornamental decoration on both optical tubes. The oculars clearly bear the inscription CHEVALIER PARIS, an important identifying element of the manufacturer. The binoculars are equipped with a central focusing wheel. Condition and functionality The object is in good condition given its age, with normal signs of wear and a beautiful patina coherent with the period. Fully functional: * the central wheel rotates smoothly; * the focusing system works properly; * the optics provide a sharp view; * both optical tubes are intact; * the mechanism is complete. The surfaces show slight patina variations and signs of use consistent with an antique item. Period Circa 1900–1930, with decorative features referable to the production of French theatre binoculars from the early 20th century. The particular decoration with birds and cherry branches is documented on specimens attributed to Chevalier/Paris as well.
