“The True Face of Jesus” is a work of intense spirituality devoted to the figure of Jesus Christ, depicted through a close-up with great expressive force, capable of concentrating the entire composition on the face, the gaze, and the deep humanity of the Redeemer. Christ is depicted frontally, with long wavy hair, a beard, and a simple cloak draped over the shoulders. There are no narrative or scenic elements to distract the observer: the whole power of the image resides in the direct contact with Jesus’ gaze, which seems to speak personally to the viewer of the work. The expression is serene yet intense, gathered and at the same time piercing. The eyes constitute the true emotional center of the composition: they convey warmth, compassion, and a quiet awareness, returning a Christ profoundly human yet enveloped in an immediately perceptible spiritual dimension. The face neither expresses pain nor triumph, but a silent and contemplative presence, capable of evoking closeness, trust, and reverence. Particularly suggestive is the strong play of light and shadow across the face. One part emerges luminous and sharp, while the other is progressively absorbed by the chiaroscuro.
