Here is a superb pair of two creative Kokeshi. The first is an authentic work by the craftsman Hidetada Shimoda. The cylindrical body in natural wood stands out with a gorgeous vertically grooved texture, on which cherry blossom flowers are painted. This Japanese artisan craft piece is a creation of the renowned artist Sadao Kishi (1932–1998), famous for his clean lines and his homage to nature. The body and base of the doll bear delicate motifs of hand-engraved ears of grain, characteristic of his style. It is distinguished by its unique design composed of stacked geometric shapes, its minimalist face with slender closed eyes, and the sculpted topknot. The artist's seal appears under its base.
