The Pier with a Lamp, from: Carceri d'Invenzione Giovanni Battista Piranesi

Plate XV from: Carceri d’Invenzione. A very fine, richly inked lifetime impression of Robison’s first state (of seven), printing with strong contrasts, before the addition of the wooden bridges and stairways in the background and before the ink dabbing along the right side of the lamppost. With wide margins around the partially uncleaned plate edges. – With binding holes along the left edge and with the characteristic flattened central fold; faint handling creases.
