Laaf Products B.V. / De Efteling - Design by Ton van de Ven - The Laaf Collection - Laven Alphabet / Terra Lavartica (A to Y) - 1998 Description: Beautiful, very extensive collection of 25 original Laven alphabet figurines (A to Y) from The Laaf Collection, manufactured by Laaf Products B.V. in collaboration with De Efteling (1998). Background & Story (The People of Laaf): According to the Efteling legend, the mischievous People of Laaf fled the Arctic region when the ice began to melt. After centuries of wandering they arrived in the Lavenlaar, the fairy-tale village in De Efteling. In 1998, Laaf Products B.V. released this special Terra Lavartica Alphabet Collection. Each Laaf depicts in a unique, humorous way a letter of the alphabet: A of Clown / Accordionist B of Beard / Old philosopher G of Guitarist / Musician L of Lion / Costumed figure V of Violinist ...and many other characteristic Laven! Design, Manufacturer & Quality Marks: Manufacturer: Laaf Products B.V. / De Efteling. Designer: Designed by the legendary Efteling designer Ton van de Ven (spiritual father of, among others, The People of Laaf, Dreamflight, and Fata Morgana). Inscription on the back: Above the coin compartment on the back of the pedestal is engraved in the material: 98 TON (often read as 098 TON). This stands for the copyright, the production year 1998, and the name of the designer Ton van de Ven. Back & The Laven Coin: On the back there is a round recess with the original bronze-toned Terra Lavartica coin as the official authenticity mark of De Efteling. (For 21 of the 25 figurines this coin is present; for 4 figurines the loose coin is missing from the recess). Bottom (Trademark & Handwritten Serial Number): Each figurine features at the bottom an officially printed brand tag with the writing Laaf and the text "The Laaf Collection - Certified by Laaf Products b.v. de Efteling Holland - Designed in Holland - Handmade in China".
