THE GERMAN BOULE-DOG / THE DONKEY OF SEDAN - Lot 193
THE GERMAN BOULE-DOG / THE DONKEY OF SEDAN KLENCK, Paul. The German Boule-Dogue. The Donkey of Sedan. Paris, Imp. Talons, [circa 1870–1871]. A satirical black-and-white lithograph depicting a large, composite caricatured head, constructed through anamorphosis from several interlocking profiles and figures. The inscriptions “The German Boule-Dogue” and “The Donkey of Sedan” provide context for this satirical piece, which relates to the Franco-Prussian War and the defeat at Sedan. Paper is slightly browned, with a few foxing spots and creases.
