The Fall of Jericho – Attributed to Manuel Peti – 18th century

Descriptio Oil on canvas. 106 x 162 cm. A composition with a broad narrative development depicting the fall of the walls of Jericho, with the Ark of the Covenant being carried in procession, priests, soldiers, and numerous figures distributed before the walled city. The composition follows an engraved model by Antonio Tempesta. It features an inscription at the bottom: “Joshua brought the ark of the covenant seven times around the walls of Jericho, and they fell.”
