The Colors of Lake Dümmer by Gary Westall Painting 11.2 x 14.0 :: I painted this picture based on a photo I took at Lake Dümmer. I was particularly fascinated by the color of the water and the way the sky light and surroundings are reflected in it. While painting I therefore didn’t just focus on the natural color of the water but deliberately emphasized the various shades. Thus pink violet turquoise blue and warm yellow tones come together giving the water’s surface its unique effect. In the foreground are large rocks on the shore over which the branches of a tree extend into the picture. The dark tree forms a strong contrast to the light colorful expanse of water. This creates a sort of window onto the lake. It was important to me not only to depict Lake Dümmer as a landscape but above all to capture the impression of color and the atmosphere that fascinated me when I captured this moment.
