THE BLACK SPOTS OF BADINGUE - Lot 229

THE BLACK SPOTS OF BADINGUE ANONYMOUS. The Black Spots of Badingue. Paris, [1870–1871]. Partially colored satirical lithograph depicting Napoleon III meditating before black clouds bearing the inscriptions “Republic,” “Orléans,” “Defense of Paris,” and “Punishment.” The caption attributes to “Badinguet” a complaint about the French resistance and the situation arising from the war. A major anti-Bonapartist composition. A few old pencil annotations in the upper margin; the paper is slightly browned and shows minor signs of wear.
