Thai Sukhothai Style Brass Seated Buddha in Meditation on Lotus Throne

Southeast Asia, Thailand. A brass seated figure of the Buddha in meditation, cast in the classic Sukhothai style. He sits in half lotus position, with the right leg folded over the left, and his hands rest one atop the other in his lap in the dhyana mudra, the gesture of meditation. The head is covered in tight spiral curls rising to a tall flame finial, and the elongated earlobes recall the heavy earrings he wore as a prince before his renunciation. The robe leaves the right shoulder bare, with a pleated sash falling over the left shoulder. He is seated on a double lotus throne with a patterned cloth draped at the front, set on a stepped base.
