Table clock - Heinrich - Art Deco - Gilt brass...

This object is a vintage Art Deco "Zodiac" table clock, designed by the well-known designer Heinrich Möller for the German clock manufacturer Kienzle. This specific model originally dates from the 1930s. Features of this clock • Design: The dial is surrounded by an openwork brass ring in which the twelve zodiac signs are incorporated. The back of the dial is made from a dark, translucent background (often glass or lucite) • Movement & Hands: Centrally on the clock sits a striking, stylized gnomon (sunhand) that serves as the shorter hour hand, combined with a thinner minute hand. • Material: The clock is crafted from heavy gilded brass and sits on a sleek, geometric rectangular foot that is typical of the Art Deco period. Heinrich Möller designed a whole series of astronomical- and zodiac clocks for Kienzle during this period, which today are highly sought after by collectors of Mid-Century and Art Deco design.
