T.R. Roberts Ltd. English Mahogany Wall-etagère with Mitterteich Bavaria Porcelain Dinnerware – Edwardian / Art Nouveau (c. 1900-1910) A particularly atmospheric and complete decorative lot consisting of a antique English mahogany wall-etagère / wall rack, crafted by the renowned cabinetmaker and home outfitter T.R. Roberts, Ltd. from Islington, London, including two matching classic porcelain coffee/tea sets from the German quality brand Mitterteich Bavaria. The wall rack is fitted on the back with the original maker’s plate: "T.R. ROBERTS, LTD. HOUSE FURNISHERS, ISLINGTON, LONDON, N". About the Maker, Style & Period The Maker: T.R. Roberts Ltd. was a leading English house furnisher and cabinetmaker based on Upper Street in Islington, London, active around the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. They were known for their high-quality craftsmanship and stylish furniture for the well-to-do English middle class. Period & Style: Edwardian / transition to Art Nouveau (c. 1900–1910). Details of the Etagère: The rack is handcrafted from warm, dark mahogany with a beautiful grain and patina. It features refined woodcarving at the top (including a rosette motif and floral acanthus/vine motifs) and a distinctive beveled lower edge. The back side bears the original metal hanging system. Contents: Mitterteich Bavaria Porcelain The wall rack is sold including a 21-piece vintage Mitterteich Bavaria dinner service (marked on the underside): 1. Full-gilt service: Large teapot, milk jug, and accompanying gold-colored cups and saucers with a rich appearance. 2. White-gold decorated service: Teapot with lid, sugar pot with lid, milk jug and accompanying cups and saucers. Dimensions Etagère / Wall Rack: Height: 93 cm Width: 67 cm Depth: 16 cm Porcelain Teapots: Fully gilded teapot: Height 24 cm | Diameter 13 cm White-gold teapot: Height 20 cm | Diameter 10 cm Styling & Interior Advice This lot forms a ready-to-place, classical eye-catching ensemble. Thanks to its compact size and warm appearance, it is extremely versatile: In the Kitchen or Dining Room: Stunning mounted above a sideboard, breakfast buffet or kitchen island for an authentic English country house atmosphere. In the Living Room / Salon: Thanks to the flat bottom, the rack can also be excellently placed as a standing etagère piece on a mantel, side table or sideboard. Horeca / Boutique: Especially suitable as a decorative showpiece in a classic hotel, B&B or traditional tearoom. Condition Wall rack: In a beautiful, authentic antique condition with light, characteristic signs of aging and use in the wood and finish, appropriate for an age of well over 100 years. The etagère is in nice and sturdy antique condition with a fine patina. On the inside and back there are old screw/nail holes visible, indicating that in the past the piece may have had a back panel, doors or other mounting/addition. This does not affect the current functionality or the sturdiness as a wall rack. Servies: In very good condition, with minimal wear to the gold on the edges. No chips or hairline cracks observed. Shipping / Pick-up The whole piece will be carefully and professionally packed (porcelain individually wrapped in bubble wrap) and sent by registered and insured mail, or can be picked up. Shipping outside Europe is carried out via a specialized courier due to the volumetric weight of the packaging.
