SWEDEN. Royal Wedding Silver Medal, 1655. Karl X Gustav. NGC MS-62.

SWEDEN. Royal Wedding Silver Medal, 1655. Karl X Gustav. NGC MS-62. Hild-20; Delzanno-29b; Bruun-17520. Diameter: 51 mm. Weight: 34 gms. By Sebastian Dadler (SD). Rare; very lustrous, the obverse with subtle toning over shiny surfaces with intricate details to the portraits, and the obverse with a gray toning over impeccable details and flashes of multicolor. Dated 1655 on the obverse and 1654 on the reverse, the medal celebrates both the wedding of the king and queen and the king's connection to the City of Riga as seen on the base of the obelisk on the reverse, which bears the arms of the city. Sebastian Dadler produced some of the finest medals of the 17th century and all his medals are highly collectible. While this medal is not his finest work, the use of space and the delicate details makes it appear very modern and later medalists have looked to this design when creating the commemorative coins of the early 19th century. Estimate: €5,000 - €6,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Royal Swedish Coin Cabinet Duplicates Sale (Stockholm - 1895) Lot # 623.
