Susan Schoemaker (1968) – Woman Portrait Susan Schoemaker (1968) is a Dutch visual artist, trained at the Utrecht School of the Arts. She works in Amsterdam and, in addition to paintings, creates figurative bronze sculptures. Schoemaker often paints her portraits from her imagination. Her figures thereby have a timeless and mysterious quality, as if they carry their own stories with them. Even in this work she manages to create a strong presence with few means. The generous square format of 100 × 100 cm enhances the portrait’s presence. The painting was acquired around 2018–2019 from Galerie Salon West on Admiraal de Ruijterweg in Amsterdam, a gallery with which the artist has been connected for many years.
