Stylish Brooch by Theodor Fahrner, ca. 1950

The jewellery of the Theodor Fahrner company in Pforzheim are sought-after collector's items. Thanks to the original sales catalogues from the beginning of the century and a good scientific reappraisal, the work of the designers employed by Fahrner is completely known and can be received in its entire breadth. The 1930s, under the direction of Gustav Braendle, were particularly important for the formal language of "Fahrner jewellery". Braendle developed an independent, recognizable style entirely in the spirit of Art Deco, which was maintained until the post-war period. Typical of this style is the so-called "Fahrner filigree decoration" with the finest cord soldering, which breaks up the surfaces and makes them appear plastic. The brooch presented here corresponds to this style. It is made of gold-washed silver and its surface is decorated with cord soldering. Shimmering marcasites form highlights. The elegant, banderole-like design suggests that the brooch was created in the years around 1950. We were able to acquire the brooch from the extensively stocked case of a Fahrner sales representative, so it remains unworn to this day.
