STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. 50 Cents, 1898. London Mint. Victoria. NGC MS-63+. KM-13; Prid-25. A simply astounding 50 Cents that stands as the sole finest certified example of the date over both the NGC and PCGS population data. Victorian 50 Cents are easily the most consistently elusive denomination struck under the Straits Settlements, as well as the largest denomination struck until the reign of Edward VII. Examples in Mint State are always highly prized, and Choice pieces are few and far between, rarely arising to auction and seeing much competition when they do. The present example is easily deserving of its lofty assessment, the surfaces utterly absent of wear and featuring swirling satiny luster through the fields and soft pastel toning. A true conditional RARITY and one that may well be unsurpassable for the date. Estimate: $12,000 - $16,000. Click here for certification details from NGC.
