statuette « Les Trésors de Toutankhamon » – Franklin Mint...

Superb pair of two statuettes from the collection “The Treasures of Tutankhamun – The Discovery Edition,” published by The Franklin Mint, including the “Bes Unguent Vase – Jarre à onguent representing the god Bes” and the “Ceremonial Chair – Siège de Cérémonie.” These two pieces miniaturely reproduce objects inspired by the extraordinary treasures associated with Tutankhamun's tomb and illustrate both the religious beliefs and the opulence of the royal court of ancient Egypt. The first piece, “Bes Unguent Vase,” depicts the god Bes, household protective deity, traditionally associated with the protection of the family and children, but also with music and dance. Bes is shown standing on a pedestal, in a characteristic pose, with his spectacular headdress and numerous carved details. The rich gold finish is complemented by blue and red polychrome elements that highlight the various attributes of the deity and give great depth to the figurine. The second piece, “Ceremonial Chair – Siège de Cérémonie,” reproduces a remarkable royal seat richly decorated. Its high back features a design inspired by Egyptian iconography, while the seat, legs and the various structural elements benefit from a particularly elegant gold finish. The back panel depicts Heh, embodiment of Eternity in Egyptian mythology, accompanied by symbols related to life and royalty. The ensemble evokes the divine power of the pharaoh and the wealth of ceremonial furniture in ancient Egypt. Presented together, these two statuettes form a very beautiful decorative set and perfectly illustrate the diversity of the Franklin Mint collection devoted to Tutankhamun’s treasures.
